Q:so, I work in an ice cream shop. if people want samples, we give them a small sample with a new, clean taster spoon. if we gave them one somebody else just used, they'd be outraged and grossed out. so then why do people get pierced with someone else's needles??!!!??!?!

I thought this was going to be irrelevant but yes, that’s a good point.

Submitter Comment: Sorry, I can’t think what I can add here!
What’s Awful: Stick and poke… Enough said? The lining is shaky and awful, I’m almost positive he did it himself in unsanitary conditions as he’s done tattoos like it before.

(SOURCE) <— Check out more of this piercer’s terrible work.
Submitter Comment: SHOP WARNING! This is the work of a piercer that works at Infamous Ink in Waco, TX. He makes some very questionable decisions when it comes to piercings. Honestly, I think he would do any piercing as long as he was getting paid for it.
What’s Awful: Not only does this “snake eyes” piercing look stupid, but it’s also incredibly dangerous. The tongue is compromised of eight muscles, and piercing two together is a disaster waiting to happen. No reputable or knowledgeable piercer would ever consider doing a horizontal tongue piercing like this one.
How It Can Be Fixed: For this piercing specifically, the client should just take out the jewelry; problem solved. However, everything this piercer does is pretty much a hack job so I would just avoid the place entirely.

Submitter’s comment: SHOP WARNING; This is Big Daddy’s Tattoo in Harbor City, CA really close to Wilmington. One of my old friends just got her tattoo finished up here so I checked out their page and OH MY GOD. Some of their stuff is alright, but some of it is just frightening.

What’s awful: That poor barbell is only just hanging on and I’m sure that’s not just because the piercing is fresh. Seriously, I give that thing like a week before it pops right out. Maybe less.

How it can be fixed: That is a botched job, man. Nothing will save that thing now. Go back and demand a refund because this is just cruel. It needs to be taken out and allowed to heal before the bridge piercing is attempted again. Man, I really hope it doesn’t scar too bad, but that’s also really likely with this piercing. I just can’t believe they would advertise this on their facebook page like they’re proud of it.

_____

Mod comment: I considered editing out the shop’s name, but I gave their FB a browse, and um yeah. So much ill-fitting initial jewelry it needs the warning.

Submitter Comment: This girl keeps showing up in my news feed and she is always trying to pierce something new even though the piercings never work out. I have tried telling her how horrible self-piercing can be but she just ignores me completely.

What’s awful: She’s piercing herself in public with safety pins, and she just leaves the needle in there!
How it can be fixed: Take the piercings out, let them heal and get them done by a professional!

Submitter comment: I was scrolling through the “ear piercings” tag because I’ve been itching to get a new piercings and I came across this.

What’s awful: There’s just something terrifying about those industrials. I can see the bar of the “fuck” one struggling to work its way out of the ear.

How it can be fixed: HELP!!!!

Submitter comment: This was found on my Facebook newsfeed, of this guy asking whether he should ‘keep it’. I left a comment explaining the high risk of infection or rejection due to the jewellery not being fit for a surface piecing, and that placement is ridiculous for a straight barbell anyway. He tried to justify the fact he knows what he’s doing because his dad has ‘more original piercings’ than I do and that he apparently knows it’ll get infected but did it for the ‘havoc’ on Facebook.
What’s awful: the placement, the jewellery, the general lack of knowledge on why that won’t be a success.
How it can be fixed: just take it out!

Moderator comment: If you picture the beads as eyes, and the fingers as tentacles, it looks like a little upside-down squid. Cthulu bite.

My client choose this beautiful opal piece by ANATOMETAL for her nostril. So pretty!(at Las Vegas Tattoo Co in Tampa Fl) Love me some Anatometal =)

I don’t understand why this is on awfulmodifications. There’s nothing wrong with it at all.
Piercing looks good to me, and it has high quality jewelry in it.

There isn’t! This piercing is perfect! I’m sorry. this was supposed to get reblogged to AWESOMEmodifications.

They do sell a lot of junk. I’m not going to deny that. (so does my local piercer)
HOWEVER, they also sell a lot of custom-order high quality jewelry (my local piercer at college keeps anatometal on hand [for fresh piercings] as well as the junk [just because? idk]). At least with metals and glass. For organics, you’re still going to go directly to the maker if you want custom.
And as far as not supporting the industry, I will ALWAYS tell people to first see what their local studio can do. However, if either your nearest studio is too far away to go for jewelry (me at home) or just has a small selection and you’re looking for something specific (me at college), then BAF is the perfect solution. I need money in my pocket too and I’m not about to spend the gas money for a 2 hour round trip+city parking just for a pair of plugs (and I know there are people who go a lot farther for their piercer). I understand your point, but I don’t think it’s always applicable.
-kat________
Hopping in to add that BAF works very closely and has great relationships with jewelry companies and their local piercing shops in Texas. Jewelry companies that are also small businesses. Those companies know very well who they’re selling to. If you find that offensive, you might want to encourage more companies to do what BVLA did and only sell to physical stores. I just think it isn’t fair to call BAF the Walmart of the industry when shit like Ebay goes down with supplies, etc. Not to mention BAF donates quite a bit of money and their time to multiple charities. If I can’t make it to my piercer, that’s a pretty good second choice.
(On a personal note, if you guys haven’t seen my massive collection of jewelry, you’ll see the majority is from local shops or direct from the source and the only website I purchase from if I have to, is BAF.)
