Thanks guys! I really love this blog :-) learned alot and I really hope other people do too. I think the biggest thing thats came from this for me personally is that if a tattooist/piercer doesn't seem to care as much as you guys do about these things then just walk away! I'd rather spend alot on nice looking, safe tattoos/piercings that I know I'm not going to get infection etc. unless through fault of my own than spend £20 for a crappy unpro job and run a very high risk of catching something!
All the ignorant assholes should listen up, because the people who run this blog know the safe and proper way of piercing, tattooing, and stretching. They are LICENSED PRACTITIONERS, and only safe people who know what the fuck they're doing get licensed and become practitioners. Sit down, shut up, and if you don't like it or you don't want to follow their advice, then please, continue to mutilate your body. Have fun with your infections and whatnot.
This girl used to go to school with me, she dropped out because of her getting in fights so much. Not only did she do this tattoo herself, it’s infected, its someones initials, AND she posted a video in the comments for how to make your own manual tattoo gun/needle. Revolting. It’s on her thigh, and shes done tattoos on others too.
I would just like to say, THAT I FUCKING LOVE THIS BLOG! Okay, now that I got that off of my chest, as a retired, professional, licensed, body mod artist, I would love to give MAJOR kudos to you guys here! I am from the Bronx, NY where you can get your clitoris pierced with no ID and $25, where you get asked 'omg that hurted?' about 3487 times in an hour, where someone with no prior proper apprenticeship can start working in a tattoo shop with no portfolio. I tell EVERYONE about this blog!
Thanks ^^ And Emily will certainly think about it ;)
”Her Holeyness”, their/her/whomever takes photographs from google and places the ones about piercings on their own, and telling people wrong information about dermals and, well, piercings in general, and does “other” stuff like teeth whitening.
That exactly this kind of shop where you shouldn’t go for your modifs…
Guys do not skip sizes or use silicone plugs to stretch! A girl I know wanted to stretch from 14 to 16 mm,waiting just a couple weeks after she last stretched. And had the brilliant idea of doing it by just shoving those silicon plugs in her ears. Needless to say, she got a massive blowout and her ears ripped, the infection got SO bad that 4 days after she had to go to the hospital and stay there for days, with intravenous antibiotics ,had to take the plugs off and got her ears closed.
Yep, like i said once in this blog, wearing silicone can make allergy. Be really careful with that !
I wish I had found this blog years sooner. I'm at a healthy and clean 9/16" and never before heard of the tape method. Up until last year, I always just stretched with oil. I have VERY low elasticity in my skin, and one lobe is pierced lower than the other [[hooray for guns at 1 year old *sarcasm jic*]], so stretching this far has been a challenge--a 7 year long endeavor to be sure everything was healed and safe. Even stretch vets can learn something new and better :)
I'd just like to say, to those who call AM judgmental, harsh, and anal. IT IS THESE PEOPLE'S JOBS TO BE ANAL ABOUT BODY MODS. They are a blog that advices you on how to pierce/stretch/tattoo in the SAFEST WAY POSSIBLE. If some randomer on the street came up to me and spoke about body mods in the way these people did I'd probably tell them to fuck off, but the bloggers here at AM are only here to help, and sometimes they have to be harsh to do so. If you don't like it, deal with it. Kthanks.
Some stupid kid on facebook trying to be cool. After that comment all he did was insult me. Whatever, he can die from shitty tattoos. And all his “friends” were ganging up on me too when I’m just trying to tell him to be safe. Whatever. And he’s so un-responsible and he has a kid already. Not saying that’s bad, but when he’s out doing shit like this, it is bad. And the one comment from Quinton about some of the best tattoos care done at home? WTF LOL.
For starters I do not in any way condone home tattoos, I’m just explaining my extremely lucky experience.
My first tattoo was done at my home by a professional who was, at the time, out of work. He wore gloves, he didn’t really explain the tattooing process, but he did try to give me some after care tips. It was cheap, but the more I look at it the more I want it redone. It’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen especially considering what I’ve seen on this blog, but it could be far better. I didn’t get an infection. I was lucky.
My second tattoo was done at someone else’s home. He was an apprentice at a near by shop. He told me he wouldn’t do the chest piece I also wanted because the only place he had where I could lay down was his bedroom which was far less clean than other places in his home. He explained everything he was doing. I watched him clean the area as best he could. He changed gloves before he tattooed me to make sure there wasn’t any cross contamination from other things he touched. I watched him do everything and he explained everything. This tat turned out better than the other one, but the ink didn’t stay in places which quite frankly, could have been due to my overcare or the ink itself. Also, before he tattooed me he showed me a portfolio that he had gathered from working at the shop and (yes I know) a few he had done on himself.
My point is, go to a professional. However, if you are for some terrible reason, set on a home tattoo make sure they at least have an idea of what they’re doing and they explain everything they can to you. If they don’t even know the workings of a tattoo machine then don’t go to them. I was incredibly lucky to not get a terrible infection or a tattoo that I really regretted due to terrible quality. Go to a professional. Check out the shop before you go. Check their portfolios. DO SOME CHECKING BEFORE YOU GET A TATTOO! Just because one person is lucky doesn’t mean you will be!
Thanks for the submition. Of course in your case it’s all okay, and you have good reasons. That post can help some people who didn’t understand why we condamn home tattoo.
a girl i know has started an apprenticeship in one of our local tattoo shops and now acts like she’s a qualified tattooist/piercer. i have witnessed her tattoo an underage person in her bedroom wearing no gloves and the machine kind of just fell apart (i don’t know anything about tattoo machines so i don’t know what was going on there), tattoo herself and another girl with no gloves and pierce a girls nipple when they were both drunk (no gloves, no clamps). no matter how much i explained how unhygienic and dangerous it all was no one listened.
the shop she works at is also awful. they pierced another one of my friends nipples with eyebrow bars and they didn’t even draw dots on to show placement or use clamps. it now looks like her nipples are growing over the bars.
all these people give me shit because i paid $120 (all together) to get my nipples pierced and $350 for my tattoo, but i suppose they don’t understand that if you want a body modification done right you have to pay money and go to a professional.
Thanks for the submition. It’s seems like there is a big problem, with the shop, and with the apprentice. I’m sad of hearing stories like this.
People need to have professionnals for them, not just people who think they are.
Having been a qualified piercer for the past two and a half years I left the job I loved last year due to getting sick of idiotic completely vapid people who would stroll in expecting me to 'fix' their mutilated home jobs, only to crack it on being told 'you need to go to the doctor for that',Then there was the know-alls who decided after being pierced they would go home and change the bar to a smaller one only to have it swell over! I really hope this page gets through to people!! :)
Aww sorry for the sickness you got but i can understand. It’s exactly like that how people are when they come and see piercers with their problems.
If we can’t help them, they don’t listen and make crap. Mix every products of aftercare between them and put every cream antibiotic on their infected piercings.
Hey guys, I am looking into getting a proffesionally done tattoo at a liscenced tattoo parlour (no shitty home jobs on this body thank you!) and was just wondering what would be some good questions to ask. I have recently moved towns and asked around for good places, of course I want to go and ask them myself so i know upfront! Thanks a lot!
Yep don’t hesitate to go to every shops and see how they work before starting a piece !
there need to be more blogs like yours, people who thinks its okay to pierce with safety pins and tattoo in a bed room with no gloves need to be woken up to the dangers they are putting their body through.
Exactly. We sincerely hope that people will change theirs throughts and make it done by professionnals.
I wish i found this blog BEFORE i got my second ear piercing at claire's. They used a gun and the piercings definitely aren't in line with each other. They're closer together on my right ear than on my left -_-
for all you kid that want to get cheaper tattoos people? go pay normal price tip your artist well, make friends with your artist. eventually you will get cheap tattoos. Im having ny artist finish this sleeve another artist did and bailed on for 400 dollars its coming out awesome. stop this scratcher shit. I have a few from when I thought it would save me a few bucks. Now I have to pay to get them covered up.
Exactly ! Thanks for the sub !
to everybody :
be friendly with the tattoist and you probably will have less to pay and have good job on you.
after seeing all the healthy stretched lobes i thought i would submit my scalpelled lobes :-) i stretched to 6mm and due to being an idiot many years ago, stretching past 6mm was impossible. i tried but they split at 7mm. so i had them scalpelled instead by Dan Hayes at Lost Time in Peterborough. they are now almost 8 months old and hopefully soon i will be doubling in size. i am currently at 10mm.
These girls at my school wanted to be piercers and they thought the only way they could was if they could "Self pierce 15 different people and places" to show that they were qualified enough for an apprenticeship? What the actual fuck. Anyway, they'd pierce all the little scene girls' nipples in the school toilets. Heaps hygienic.
what a story :( That make me sad that girlies think they can become body piercer that way.
If you have really passion for this job, you should do everything to NOT make bad things and have sterile material, and go to piercers to have informations…
and no comment for the people who accept to be pierced by this girls…
Today I was in Claire's picking up some labrets, and I hear this lady come in and say, "Hello, yeah, my daughter got her ears pierced here and they still aren't healed so I need more of that solution stuff." I don't know what's worse, the fact she used that ENTIRE huge ass bottle, the fact she's making the poor girl use it and probably "turn" her earrings also.. or the fact she got charged 10 bucks. I wanted so badly to take the woman to Dollar Tree and buy her some sea salt..
yeah, the problem is that people THINK the PRODUCT WILL heal the piercing.
no, it’s the BODY who decide the healing process, the product is just for avoiding bacteries.
Been sitting here looking at this blog for ages. It's unreal how willing people are to mutilate themselves to save a bit of money. The tattoo place I go to has a minimum charge of £40 and I've got some tiny stuff done. People think it's funny I'm will to pay so much for something so small but I'd rather do that then get a free one in someones crusty student house. Geeeez x
