This is actually one of my Facebook friends and seeing this post on my newsfeed made AWFUL MODS come to mind. I’ve been to lazy to submit a post until I saw THIS.
-What’s awful? This girl is 14. Last time I checked, 14 was ILLEGALLLLLL! This tattoo is horribly done. Shakey and uneven lines. It was done by some random person at a drunken party. If done by a professional, she wouldn’t of had this tattoo in the first place.
-How can it be fixed? Hmmmm…going to a professional maybe??? I think so.
Honestly if I had read these stories of infections, or seen these nasty photo’s of blown out ears I would have thought twice about the stupid things I’ve done to myself.
For starters, I pierced my own nose at 14 (about four years ago), not only did it get infected and looked like an oozing wart, I was cleaning the damn thing with hydrogen peroxide. Because at 14 that just sounded SO smart. Someone should have high fived me in the face, with a chair. I was so dumb.
Second, I got my ears pierced at Claires (original story, I know but I gets better) which was fine until at age 16 when I though “hey! stretched ears, how neat!”. My dumbass didn’t look at any sizing charts, or what taper materials are proper to stretch with. I just popped on over to hot topic, and bought some stretchers I thought looked small enough to start off with, didn’t even look at the size (they were 4g) AND they were acrylic. I’m surprised my ears didn’t blow out there. I was fine with my stretching until I went from a 0 to 00 too fast. All day my ear was throbbing but I thought that was “normal”. I took the bloody (seriously I was bleeding) taper out and saw the my left lobe felt like….you guessed it….a twat.
Now I’m 18. My nose piercing is healthy, and all the piercings I’ve gotten after have been professional. My poor left ear though…it healed but the skin is thin, and full of scar tissue, and it basically rejects any earring I put in it (I’m not talking plugs or tunnels I’m talking EARRINGS). I’m lucky to have had the hole close up.
Moral of the story, don’t be an idiot unless you want wart nose piercings and twat lobes. Read this amazing blog, it will save your skin.
There's a show on TLC called America's Worst Tattoos. This has definitely restored some faith to humanity for me. They get people with shitty scratcher tattoos, get them to tell their story about how they got it and how much they hate it, and then they get very reputable tattoo artists to do cover ups. Something worth checking out, and I thought everyone should know about it. :)
Because we just got a few messages about this…
It actually seems pretty okay as far as TLC reality shows go. Definitely not the disaster that “Tattoo School” was…
Here you can find more info on it and also a clip of the show.
Never ever ever go on this blog while eating anything with tomato sauce. You WILL vomit from the horror of poorly stretched ears. Also, I love this blog. When I was younger, I used to be so jealous that all my friends got their ears pierced when they were babies, and that my friends were going to Claire's to get their cartilage, but now, I am SO grateful my mom waited, and is making me wait until I'm 16. Also, I'm getting my ears done at a piercing parlor. Thank you guys for having this blog. :)
Submitter Comment: Okay, so this is disgusting, right? I went to school with this girl, from 6th grade until my Junior year. She started doing her own piercings around 7th grade, her parents didn’t care. I copied this from her facebook and she stated and I quote ” It doesn’t hurt, and it really isn’t as bad as it looks, I took my time but I guess my ears don’t like the stainless steel. :(.” Took her time? No, she didn’t. I seen posts every week about how she was sizing up.
What’s Awful: Bacon strip, need I say more?
How it can be fixed: The ear will never be completely normal without medical attention. It literally busted open.
Submitter content: I work in a jewellry store. A few days ago, a customer came in and asked to buy a nose ring. I looked at her piercing and was hocked to see that her nostril was pierced about a half inch away from the edge of her nostril, and, as the cherry on top of the cake of holyfrickingcrap, the end of the nostril screw she had in stuck almost an inch out of her nose. She told me that she had just had it pierced a few days ago.
What’s awful?: Improperly placed piercing with ill-fitting jewellry, and she was changing jewellry too soon.
I did not want to overstep, so i simply advised her that she at least take the ring back to the piercer and have them put it in (though I wonder about their competence, looking at the awful placement of the piercing in the first place). I also warned her about the sensitivity of new piercings, though I feel as though my advice just went in one ear and out the other. She ended up leaving with a 10k yellow gold sleeper ring, which I find a bitch to put in a five year old lobe piercing, and don’t even want to consider sticking in a new piercing. I also mentioned this, though she seemed unconcerned.
How can it be fixed?: Honestly, she should take it out, let it heal and find a new piercer. There is no way to fix an improperly placed piercing, without removing it. I hope she at least held off on putting the ring in.
Submitter comment: I found this while browsing the tattoo tag and felt my eyes burn out of their sockets.
Why it’s awful: Not even a font, clearly a scratcher tattoo, you can see where the person who did it went over the ‘e’ at the bottom several times. Just not good at all. and it’s apparently “unfinished.”
How it can be fixed: A huge cover up on the side, tattoo removal, or someone who can at least make the writing not as shallow-looking as it is.
this is a self submit! on Sunday may 27, I had my top navel pierced after some horrific scarring on my inverse navel several years ago made it impossible to re-pierce. I went to my normal piercing shop which I trust and have had only positive experiences with. unfortunately my piercer did rush the measuring and I am not sure she got an accurate reading or factored in the swelling allowance, but that afternoon I was in a lot of discomfort. I thought it was normal as the piercing was only a few hours old. the next day I cleaned and salt soaked, but I was still in a lot of pain - the kind you can’t take your mid off. I bathed it in warm water and then salt soaked again that night, as well as taking an aspirin to stop the swelling. at 5am the next morning, I woke up in extreme pain and had to have ice on my stomach until I went to school. the bottom ball was embedded in my skin. I went into the shop during lunch as it doesn’t open until 10, and had it looked at by the owner and head pierced at the shop. he agreed that the bar was not nearly long enough to allow for swelling and changed and replaced the bar free of charge. the impression left by the bottom ball was made under so much pressure that the skin has gone raw and stings, something I hope to heal with twice daily half hour salt soaks and placing a cover over the piercing to avoid it being snagged or irritated by my clothes. I’m still in a lot of pain - even though I had it checked out relatively quickly.
what’s awful: my piercer didn’t take enough time to think through their actions and it had a bad effect on their client! I didn’t ensure the bar would accommodate swelling and this also lead to a lot of pain and a prolonged healing time.
how it can be fixed: careful monitoring, salt soaks and visiting a professional with as little delay as possible. being thorough and making. sure your piercer talks you through the procedure to make sure they know what they are doing, whether it’s your first piercing or your fiftieth!
A girl I knew from high school posted this gem. I don’t know the back story, but it looks awful and I wouldn’t be surprised if some dude did this in a basement. Apparently its on her boyfriend.
What’s awful? Just look at dat face! Super wonky line work, the eyes are way off, the knobs on the guitar are absolutely horrendous. The top of the left arm and wrist are terribly off, pretty much everything about this tattoo just looks….bad.
How it could be fixed? Going to a shop where someone actually knows what they are doing and has experience with portrait work.
So I got asked to be a mod for this blog. And so here I am. I don’t really know what to put into an intro post, so how about I just do it like this:
Name: Kat Age: 19 Location: Delaware/Georgia Visible Modifications: “smiley”, 4g lobes (stretching back to 2g), industrial Modifications not shown: 12g horizontal nipples About myself: I like a lot of things that don’t seem to go together. Most people don’t expect me to be an outdoorsy type, but I love camping/hiking and I work as a lifeguard. I don’t go to nearly as many concerts/shows as I’d like to. I love science (mostly biology). I am a photography major.
Here is this awkward picture of myself:
(yes, that is totally the same post I wrote for awesomemods. look at all the fucks I give. :P )
And our newest member, Petra! You may well have already seen her ‘welcome’ post, but she’s a professional body jewellery designer, and has been pierced, punched, scalpelled and tattooed, and also had one of the rarest piercings in the world!
