I'm not sure why anyone would listen to this blog. When someone actually sends you something asking a serious question, you ignore it. All you do is bash people. Not help them.
Actually, I personally spend almost all of my time as moderator answering questions. o__O I don’t publish them because they aren’t anyone else’s business, but I love helping people when they ask for it. There are a lot of submissions and questions to go through, so I apologize if it takes a little while or if you’ve been ignored, but we’re trying here.
Anyone with problems should always directly consult their piercer, especially if they need immediate help. But we’re always here to offer free professional advice, as long as people are patient. :)
Submitter’s comment: I found this gem on fb, through an old friend of mine. It was done by someone whom is unlicensed in an apartment.
What’s awful: What isn’t awful with this? It was done in an un-sterile environment by someone with absolutely no professional training. Wonky lines, unsymmetrical, poor shading/coloring, poor proportioning.
How it can be fixed: Go to a professionaland hope for the best.
Submitters Comment: I used to be really close friends with this kid. He would always unsafely give himself and others piercings. Once he told me that he pierced his ex’s nipples. It always grossed me out because I know he doesn’t use even attempt to sanitize the improper tools (I don’t know what he used, probably a safety pin or something.) At the time of these pics he was 14, so I’m not sure if he still does self-piercings (probably does though).
What’s wrong with it: He was 14 and had no idea what he was doing. I’m no piercing expert but I’m almost positive that the jewellery on the arm is incorrect. The industrial looks doesn’t look right to me at all. He’s too young, unlicensed, didn’t use proper tools, didn’t sanitize or sterilize. There’s so much wrong with all of those piercings it’s just unbelievable.
How to fix it: Instead of bragging about your shitty, gross, self-piercings, go out and get them professionally done. Take out all those piercings and let them heal. Giving yourself ridiculous piercings just because you want to seem ballsy or cool is just so stupid. Also stop piercing other people cause you’re setting them up for an infection.
What’s awful: I stumbled upon on my facebook newsfeed, I don’t know him very well but I do know this guy isn’t tattooing in a shop that’s clean, he’s tattooing at home and to me, the lines look a little *cough* off…
Found on tumblr. She’s running a rather popular healthy/weight-loss blog and has loads of people looking up to her, so I was SO frustrated when I saw this and I had to confirm it. I just hope after I (the anon) asked her that, that I’m not the only person following her who realises how stupid this is.
What’s awful?: Tattooing other people without being trained, and being proud of it and promoting it on a popular tumblr blog to people who are not well-informed!!
How it can be fixed?: Don’t do it and at least don’t promote it!!
Submitter’s Comment: This kid is a total professional because we all know that alcohol and flames sterilize everything.
What’s Awful: The fact that he thinks he is a professional and that everything is clean and sterile when it is not. And the fact that he actually has “customers” Do people not care about their bodies anymore?
How it can be fixed: Find an apprenticeship, learn to pierce properly
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I saw that my friend liked this status on the side news feed on facebook, so I got curious and clicked it (because come on, who doesn’t do that sometimes?) and to my misfortune… I saw this. I cringed so badly.
WHAT’SAWFUL: First off, piercing yourself just because your bored is plain stupid! Second, using a sewing needle to pierce yourself is unsanitary and will most likely end in infection. Lastly…..stretching right away to 10g….how stupid do you have to be to do that? Not to mention this guy is apparently only 13 years old. The fact that people are actually liking this status is even worse.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: DON’T DO IT!!!!!! Don’t be stupid! Go to a professional piercer, get it pierced properly, then wait for a year or so, and then gradually stretch up to 10g!
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: This is a girl I used to go to college with. It’s her first tattoo. I know she’s not underage and that it was done by a ‘professional’. I don’t know the name of the studio she got this but I wish I knew so I’d NEVER go there.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Look at those wonky lines and the coloring is so.. terrible. A child could have done better than that. I’d be ashamed to have something like that in my skin.
SUBMITTERS COMMENT: A guy from my home town does tattoo’s from his house and I found his ‘official’ page where you can book appointments with him. There is also photos on his friends pages that show them laying on uncovered lounges or just dining chairs lined up to make a bench.
WHAT’S AWFUL: What isn’t awful?! The lines are terrible and not straight at all, with some spots looking like bits have been added in to actually make them join together. The colour is patchy and isn’t even anywhere. The placement of the whole thing is terrible and the ink would probably last a week. You can see remains of other tattoos towards the wrist as well.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Don’t get home jobs! Hopefully this will fully fade out so no one ever has to see it again. Otherwise full palm coverage!
When I was a baby my mom got my ears pierced with a gun, which was very usual for the 90s. They eventually got infected and had to take them out. When I was in the first grade I begged her to let me get my ears pierced again because every other girl did. She took me to claire’s and it took me about an hour or so to actually let them pierce them because I was scared. They gave the usual speach about turning them every so often and gave me their ear cleaner. After having them in for about a week or so one of my ears became swollen and engulfed with scabs while my other ear was oozing. I had to be taken to the emergency room, pinned down, screaming my head off just to get them taken out. Now I have lopsided scars on my ears but that won’t stop me from wanting them pierced again.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: These gems are of a friend’s friend who proudly shows off his work thinking that it’s okay to scribble on other people’s skin. He is fully aware that he is not supposed to be tattooing minors but does it anyway. He charges $60 for any tattoo, but will knock it down to $20 if he thinks you’re cute - just slightly creepy.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Since when did Hello Kitty’s hands look like female pleasure toys instead of cute little mittens? The preparation and tattooing took only 10 or so minutes; he obviously didn’t take the time to make sure everything was sterilized and to tattoo with detail. Just look how inconsistent the shading is in both photos and how wonky the lines are. All of the faces’ eyes are asymmetrical, and in the skull tattoo, their teeth are all uneven! Oh, and the Hello Kitty tattoo’s coloring ended up fading within a week.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Get a cover up from someone from a highly reputable shop so that you won’t have to live with such a ridiculous mistake on your skin. Don’t go to a tattoo “artist” who knows he is doing something illegal but doesn’t even know that everything has to be in a sterile, professional environment. Van Gogh’s art is expensive for a reason, and it’s the same thing with masterpiece tattoos.
A moderately popular blog consisting of images of beautiful modified people has a tip of the week section. This week, their top tip is:
"Making Your Own Homemade Plugs
Measure the width of your current, store-bought plugs.
Use standard Sculpey/Sculpey-like clay and shape it in to the desired pattern. For a swirled look, layer two sheets of different colored clay on top of each other and roll them up.
Roll the clay against a smooth surface to achieve the desired width.
Compare the width of the clay to the width and length of your store-bought plugs and cut the clay where appropriate to match this length.
Bake the clay in an oven set to 275 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. The clay will be extremely hot after the oven, but use a tool to check for firmness. If the clay is not firm, allow to bake a few moments longer.
Allow your new plugs to fully cool down and then try them on in your ear. You should use O-rings (those black rubberbands around some styles of plugs) to hold the plugs in place.
Please submit a photo of how this tip of the week worked out for you! :3”
SUBMITTER COMMENT: What’s Awful: A mods blog which may be considered authoritative by those who don’t know better is actively encouraging people to make and wear poly clay plugs. Also, a worrying comparison between nitrile o-rings and rubber bands.
How it can be fixed: Before giving tips, make sure you’ve done your own research! If you have not researched, or if you do not see yourself as an educated authority on the topic, don’t give tips at all.
ETA: Warminthefrost pointed out: “I think what they mean is that when you change to “Submit a Video”, tumblr fucks up and won’t show the agree to terms/submit buttons. This is a really common annoying issue with tumblr.”
Also OP replied and cleared that up. I also can’t read. Uhm…I’m really not sure what to do about this because it’s apparently a tumblr-wide thing. I went to check it out and I don’t see it either… Just put the link in the submission and we can try to figure it out by editing it if the video is bad enough. Make a note that tumblr screwed up. :)
There’s a guy in one of my classes at school, one of those run-of-the-mill kids you’d most likely find hanging around at Hot Topic. I noticed one day he was wearing a thumb tack in one of his snakebite piercings. A thumb tack. In a lip piercing.
What’s awful; This REALLY REALLY needs to be seen. The girl touches her belly button, and the guys gloves, AND HE PIERCES IT ANYWAY. He doesn’t clean it again or put on new gloves. He just goes on and pierces it. It doesn’t even look like a shop..
How this can be fixed; I don’t think it can, she just needs to realize she can’t keep touching it.
Ooof, this is terrible. That jewelry isn’t sterile, even if you use tweezers to pick it up! The worst part imo is the very end where he just wipes down the forceps and puts them back in a pouch; he’s clearly not going to actually clean and sterilize those.
About an hour ago I finally plucked up the courage to split my gum webbing and re-pierce my philtrum. Even as it is now, I’m so happy with how it looks. I’ll be sure to take some photos of it once it’s healed and I’ve got my new jewelry in it. ^_^
Oh look, a Tumblr famous person essentially telling all her followers that ‘HEY IT’S OKAY TO SLICE YOUR OWN MOUTH OPEN AND PIERCE YOURSELF’.
Newsflash guys. The girl above is an idiot. Don’t do it. You’re better than that. I mean really, practically performing a frenectomy on yourself when it has to be done in sterile conditions as the risk of infection is so high? And then going an piercing right next to it?
Why don’t people with so called ‘fame’ do something fucking good with it.
