So I found this guy while looking at upper conch pictures
Submitter comment: Be prepared for a somewhat long post… I was looking on google for upper conch piercing pictures and saw this guy’s (whom I do not know at all) lobes, which caught my eye:
(source) Not sure if it’s that bad or not, but he says it’s near 16mm and it just seems off. Anyways, seeing his lobes I decide to click the picture and it takes me to his myspace. I look at all of his pictures, which seem to be mod-related, and I just about died when I saw these.
(source) ^Titled: “Product placement, in the most unlikely place”^
(source) ^”A bottle of Vitamin-E Oil through my ear”^ Looks so comfortable!
(source) ^Titled: “The cap of the Vitamin E oil through my ear with O-rings on it”^ …Looks much better, don’t ya think?
(source) Something we don’t have in America, a Kinder Surprise Egg(? Hope I’m getting the name right) and he asks if “it surprises us” Ha ha. This next one just takes it all…
(source) ^”My next size up: empty scotch tape roll, around 38mm”^ …REALLY? -That’s all of the picture but he always recommends EarGauges.net to people, saying “I know they’re not called gauges but they have good deals”, where if you look at the community photos there are some real wows. -He also has a YouTube channel where he used to tell people how to stretch [improperly]. The videos of him stretching his lobes are At least he tells people it’s a bad way to do it now though.
What’s Awful: The things he put in his ears and the way he used to stretch them, and the fact that he is doing it while being in a lot of pain.
How it can be fixed: DO NOT DO THIS. I do believe this guy has downsized back to 16mm or 14mm and is now telling people that it’s a bad way to stretch, so I guess he’s in the process of fixing
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I found this image on Facebook - it’s caption was ‘First ever tattoo with no practice’. I’ve got an idea that he’s got a proper apprenticeship now, and his designs are greatly improving.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Clearly done in an unsanitary environment (judging by the pen and keyboard etc on the floor)
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Practise on something other than real skin, train for proper qualifications and a then get employed by a reputable shop with a sanitary environment to work in!
Submitter comment: I came across this video on youtube a little while back.
What’s Awful: He’s getting his ears pierced in a mall via a piercing gun. Had he been in a proper piercing studio, being worked on by an actual body modification artist as opposed to this hack, he wouldn’t have fainted on the floor. The piercer would have known that fainting may occur and would’ve handled it accordingly instead of letting him fall to the floor.
How it can be fixed: Never get pierced with a piercing gun in a mall by someone who’s untrained.
Moderator comment: NEVER get pierced without eating a real meal (like at least a sandwich) within about 4 hours before getting pierced. A REAL piercer will know that if someone is freaking out like that and acting like they feel funny/off/dizzy/whatever that that person needs to stay seated, take a break from being pierced, and maybe drink some juice and/or eat something small. -Kat
I know this guy through Facebook, and he’s got so many terrible mods. His tongue looks dead and lifeless due to so many bad piercings, and now this picture of his lobe! He also has a “tattoo gun” (his words, not mine) that he bought off eBay. As far as I know he hasn’t used it on anyone, but it’s only a matter of time I suppose.
Posting this thin, bloody, nasty lobe on Facebook and actually being proud of it. And his girlfriend seems to think it’s cool. I mean come on, have some respect for your body!
I know you probably get a shitload of these, but I just wanted to say thank you. I’m 15 and I’ve wanted a lip piercing for quite some time now, but my mother is not so sure about letting me have it, because the country we live in isn’t exactly educated about piercings and like 80 % of kids get their piercings done by friends. But I’m currently on page 175 of your blog and I have learned so much, I now know how to pick a place to get my piercing, how to take proper care of it, when I can change the jewellery, what should I do if I by any change get an infection… I could probably give a 15 minute speech about it to my mum, and I’m planning on showing her that I’m serious about this and that it didn’t just cross my mind like 5 minutes ago. I’m already saving up for it for my 16th birthday. So yeah, I know that I’m not suppose to submit shit like this, but seriously, a huge thank you to all you beautiful people running this blog, you’ve really helped out a lot of us ignorant and uneducated people.
EDIT: I think BME is having some issues? Here’s a picture from that article:
And a summary:
chirrcollector said: If you can’t read the article, an important note is that this is NOT a “trend”. Saline injections have been a part of the fetish + mod communities for many years. The media loves to grip such stories and misrepresent them without historical context.
Alright, so I used to know this guy a few years back. He used to pierce out of his house. The piercings were either done in the bedroom (over carpet, not to mention the cat box was in the room) or on the kitchen table. The table was always littered with dirty dishes. He kept all of his jewelry in a glass bowl, which he would let his clients fish around in to find jewelry they like. He went around saying that he was a ‘Certified Piercer’. And by that he means he ordered a few DVDs online that teach you how to pierce and it comes with a certificate that you can hang on the wall. FYI: There’s no such thing as a CERTIFIED or LICENSED piercer or tattoo artist in Canada. The guy actually works in a shop now, and has started tattooing, and his tattoo work is possibly worse than his piercings.
I think the tattoo and the 32000x navel piercings speak for themselves in the fact that they just look awful and dumb. The navel/stomach piercings make my gut wrench for a few reasons, so I’ll list the two most important. ONE, he’s pierced her with curved barbells. Surface piercings already have a low success rate, especially in that area, even when they are done with the correct jewelry. TWO, surface piercings, navels, and eyebrows all have to be done against the ‘grain’ of your skin. Look at all the weird angles a few of those are pierced at. The grain of skin, and the depth of a piercing, are the elements that keep jewelry in your body. If these stomach piercings even healed correctly to begin with, I assume they rejected at a rapid pace.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED:
Assuming someone was wanting to get that atrocious wheel of steel sharks teeth around their navel, there really would be no ‘good’ way to do it. With the stomach being such a high motion area, it’s not going to like having foreign objects moving around all the time. But I suppose the best way to do it would be with microdermals.
Submitters comment: I’ve known this girl for years and all throughout our junior/senior year she would come to class with new tattoos done by a “friend” of hers. Each one is obviously wonky and done in a house.
Whats awful: Horrible wonky lines from someone who obviously doesn’t know what he’s doing in a very unhealthy environment.
SUBMITTER COMMENT: Found this whilst scrolling through Facebook, her dad has been teacher her to tattoo in their living room, she’s only 15 in this photo and her dad has been fined more than once for tattooing without license to do so.
WHAT’S AWFUL: She’s underage (15), Unlicensed and Inexperienced. Although she’s wearing gloves and they have an autoclave, that doesn’t make it a perfect tattooing environment, it’s still just a living room in their house!!!
HOW IS CAN BE FIXED: Don’t tattoo in your house, don’t tattoo without license to do so, don’t let your daughter tattoo illegally and unhygienically.
i found out like a few weeks ago that a local piercer (that i'm not proud to say i went to until i found my current piercer) isn't even certified. basically, i was wondering what it takes to actually be considered certified and if what he's doing is legal or not. i tried looking it up on google but i can't really find anything that answers my question.
It depends entirely on where you live. Some digging on your local health department’s website might get you some information.
In Florida, where I live, to become a licensed piercer all you have to do is attend a 4 hour class (usually powerpoint or video) about all of the legal stuff and a small amount of air/bloodborne pathogens training. Not much at all, right? That’s why it’s so important to do your research, because a certificate doesn’t guarantee much at all, and there are tons of places that have even less regulation than where I live.
Very interesting! I’ve even seen people put thousands and thousandsof dollars into laser removal and have very little improvement at all. They come in for cover-ups on their failed tattoo removals with baaaad scar tissue.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: These gems are of a friend’s friend who proudly shows off his work thinking that it’s okay to scribble on other people’s skin. He is fully aware that he is not supposed to be tattooing minors but does it anyway. He charges $60 for any tattoo, but will knock it down to $20 if he thinks you’re cute - just slightly creepy.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Since when did Hello Kitty’s hands look like female pleasure toys instead of cute little mittens? The preparation and tattooing took only 10 or so minutes; he obviously didn’t take the time to make sure everything was sterilized and to tattoo with detail. Just look how inconsistent the shading is in both photos and how wonky the lines are. All of the faces’ eyes are asymmetrical, and in the skull tattoo, their teeth are all uneven! Oh, and the Hello Kitty tattoo’s coloring ended up fading within a week.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Get a cover up from someone from a highly reputable shop so that you won’t have to live with such a ridiculous mistake on your skin. Don’t go to a tattoo “artist” who knows he is doing something illegal but doesn’t even know that everything has to be in a sterile, professional environment. Van Gogh’s art is expensive for a reason, and it’s the same thing with masterpiece tattoos.
A girl goes and begs a tattoo artist to put Drake’s name on her forehead. The artist himself admitted it’s a horribly stupid tattoo and shitty font. When asked about it, Drake said it was cool and he 100% supported it, advocating more stupid tattoos, but for some reason is insanely pissed at the artist.
What’s awful: She got a tattoo of someone’s name on her face. Not even someone she knew, a rapper she’s never met.
How it can be fixed: (Mod comment:) Laser removal…? I really am unsure. I suppose she could get a cover up if she wanted. or bangs?
MOD COMMENT: Now, if this girl wants to get drake’s name tattooed on her, fine. That’s her thing, she can do what she wants. The problem here is that the artist is a fuck up and the lines and spacing are wacked. I also get the feel that drake thinks the idea is cool, but hates the artist because the artist did a fucking shitty job. - Kat
SUBMITTER COMMENT: So this is my friend on Facebook and she just posted a picture of a new piercing her friend gave her. I don’t get why she wouldn’t get this professionally done considering she has a job and is over 18 and wouldn’t spend the extra buck on a good job done by a reputable piercer.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Using a straight barbell on a surface piercing which would most likely cause the piercing to migrate and reject and getting pierced at someone’s home and by someone not professional.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Taking out the barbell and letting it heal and get it re-pierced by a licensed professional with proper jewelry.
Submitter Comment: These clay things came through my dashboard here on tumblr. The girl who sells them makes a bunch of other things, not earrings/plugs, that are nice on her etsy.
What’s Wrong: Even in the picture of the tentacle ones, you can see a fingerprint on the little pink suction cup. They’re not safe to wear, and she has other ones on there. At $10 a pair, and she keeps them under a “gauged earrings” heading in her shop. Oy.
