WHAT’S AWFUL: An old acquaintance of mine is known for her stupidity, and this just proves it all. I am unsure if she does these tattoos herself after she ‘stencils’ them, though they are backyard/home jobs. The environment is fairly unhygienic. The lines are awfully thick and shaky, the (horrible) stencil has no shading at all, the “tattooist” didn’t even bother to add shading, but instead only made it thicker, darker and more horrible. The first tattoo lacks shading and the lines are all out of place. The unicorn/horse looks like it has been drawn with a ball point pen and makes me sick to know that this is on somebody’s body.
The girl is of legal tattoo age, I suggest her going to a real tattooist instead of skimping out.
Seriously it’s not that difficult and I can’t believe I’m making this post again. I kind of hate to be a condescending asshole, but when you have to moderate hundreds of incorrectly submitted things, it gets on your nerves.
So. THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW WHEN YOU SUBMIT:
IF IT IS AN IMAGE:
WE NEED THE SOURCE. We need you to put the image INTO the post, not just link to it.
1. SUBMITTER COMMENT: this is where you say where you found it/what’s going on
2. WHAT IS WRONG: This is where you say what went wrong here
3. HOW TO FIX IT: if it is a tattoo leave it blank. The only thing you can really do for tattoos is cover it up/retouch it or remove it. Piercings… if you don’t know how to fix it, leave it blank. and PLEASE DO NOT BE AN ASSHOLE ABOUT IT. like “idk go hide in a cave forever out of shame” IS NOT A VALID SOLUTION.
IF IT IS TEXT/PERSONAL STORY:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep it to like 3 SHORT paragraphs. I know you want to put in every detail, but I’m not going to read a 2000 word essay on what went wrong.
IF IT IS A VIDEO:
well…video is a little messed up on tumblr as a whole. Put the link to the video in the post and the do what is under and image post.
More instructions on how to do specific things are on the page our “submission” button goes to. If you can’t figure it out, please read through that.
REMEMBER: Disliking someone is not a valid reason to submit them and thinking a certain modification (facial tattoos, genital mods, tongue splits…etc) are weird is not a reason to submit them. We don’t take “adult” stuff anyway, so don’t submit that…
There is a girl at my cosmetology school that on Halloween decided to shove a needle through her ear for a self pierced industrial. I did not see the piercing take place because trust me, I would have tried to stop her. When we were all in a room listening to our guest speaker I could not stop staring at her new “cool” piercing. Her ear had swelled up about 2 times its size, she kept the needle in instead of putting jewelry in, it was still bleeding, she was constantly touching it with her bare hands, and the placement was pretty awful. I wanted to take a photo but she had recently been bragging about beating up some girl and fracturing her arm so I was honestly a bit afraid to upset her if she caught me taking a photo. I tried to nicely tell her that it would probably be a good idea to take it out but I was quickly ignored. I sent her a message on Facebook with a link to this site but she has never responded so I have given up on trying to help.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: Need I say more?
WHAT’S AWFUL: Self piercing at a school, touching it without wearing gloves or sanitizing hands at least, keeping the needle in, and probably so many other things that I did not see her do.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: For the love of all things good, take it out. Or at least put a bar in the piercing instead of using the needle as jewelry.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: This is the tattoo of someone from my facebook with the caption “I got a classic microphone cause I’m a singer”. She’s got tattoos from the same guy before apparently, but her previous ones look so much better.
WHAT’S AWFUL?: The tattoos are done by a home artist, probably, judging by the state of the artwork in unsanitary conditions. You can’t really tell what it is! the line work is AWFUL! It’s a terrible design, the so called shading isn’t in the right places. It makes me wonder if the person that did the tattoo can even draw let alone be let loose with a tattoo machine. The worst thing is, he actually paid for it!! if this was me, I’d ask for compensation so I could afford to get rid of it.
(you can watch this in the UK for the next couple of weeks, not sure about the USA, sorry!)
This was the saddest show :( I watched it after reading the blurb:
“This film explores the world of tattoos; the artists, the reasons why people have them and what happens when they regret them.”
Over half the tattoos on the show were AWFUL (and I even kinda like some bad tattoos) but seriously really awful, and the people getting them weren’t into the art, but obsessive people, who could have been on a whole other show about people with too much money and OCDs - it featured a guy with c*nt tattooed on him several times (got when he was drunk, in Ayia Napa) and some guy with a Miley Cyrus obsession. Its worth it to see the scary demon head Miley he gets - its meant to just be her face, but I swear to you, it’s a hell demon.
I was really sad to watch it, because it made out that people who get a lot of tattoos are crazy and that tattoos are ugly and deforming. The quality of the work they showed was bad - including a girl that set up a studio in her own home. With cats.
I’m kind of angry that Channel 4 chose this as a way of showing off “why people have tattoos”…although I could certainly see why some people would regret them, after watching this :(
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: Not an awful modification, just an interesting video which interviews and compares licensed tattoo artists to scratchers. It’s in dutch but you can tell just by the quality of the tattoos that they bear and show off about which works in a shop and which doesnt. A very interesting watch for those who understand dutch!
It’s sad when I have so many things that are worthy of submitting here.
When I met my boyfriend, he had already been stretching his ears. They were pretty big, not exactly sure what size, but he got to well beyond an inch. He had to downsize because he got a blowout, (it’s healed now thank goodness, his ears are at about 0 now, he leaves them naked)
But he does have some catbutt going on, just a little bit. Last night we were talking about this blog, and he told me, “If I start to stretch again, I’m not gonna take advice from some website.”
So I replied with, “When my ears get big enough, let’s compare healthiness and see what you say then!” ;)
Just thought you guys might like to hear that you are talked about and that one of your minions is /trying/ to spread the word :)
YEAH ‘CAUSE IT’S NOT LIKE THERE’S ANY INFORMATION TO BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET OR ANYTHING
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I found pictures of this guy on Facebook. He tattoos people with his cheap tattoo machine in their bedrooms. He says he’s a professional and everybody praises his work. He has entire folders full of these horrid pieces of so-called ‘art’. And he has a few awful tattoos as well. You can’t see much in the photo’s, but he also has very thin and blowouty lobes.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Bad tattoos, not done by a professional, in unsanitary conditions and thin discusting lobes.
Ive been going through the pages and I just have to say, maybe some people are happy with the tattoos they have. Making comments like "get a cover up that's the only real way to fix this mess" isn't 'advice' or 'how it can be fixed'. Sucks you don't like their tattoo, if they like it then that's what matters. I'm not sure if this blog is to just insult people or if you're actually in it for the education, it's hardly apparent sometimes.
WE DON’T WRITE THE STUFF UNDER THE SUBMISSIONS.
That’s why it says “SUBMITTER’S COMMENT.”
The only stuff we write is preceded by “MODERATOR’S COMMENT.” We are the moderators.
All we do is approve submissions, add some little random notes, and educate the people who ask body modification questions. Obviously we don’t think comments like that are legitimate advice, because we tell people to leave that line blank on tattoo submissions.
Posting publicly because omg, guys. You really think I would say so many mean things? ;(
I have a friend who is about to start a sleeve, and he's been looking for a sterile shop with talented artists. In all honesty, I don't trust most of the shops where I am. Is there a website or something where he can look for a nice shop? or would you happen to know of somewhere in east Tennessee?
The only shop that comes to mind is Born This Way in Knoxville, they’re fantastic.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: It could be purely coincidental that this person has cellulitis on what appears to be a home done scratcher tattoo… or it could be because they got a home done scratcher tattoo and it got horribly infected due to poor sanitation and unsterile conditions.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I found this in a comment while I was talking to a guy that thought it was okay to stretch right after he got his ears pierced… I told him about blow outs, cat buts, proper way of stretching and what not… after that he said, I can get those things removed this easily and gave me this video. This video is the source. I’m sorry if my grammar is bad, that’s never my intention but I’m from Holland,. so it’s not my first language..
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Well, first of all, not this way….. Second, Just size down,. treat your lobes well, don’t over do it and don’t stretch too fast.. for the rest; HELP!
SOURCE: The source seems to have deleted her blog. Wouldn’t you?
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: Here I am, innocently scrolling through my dash, when lo and behold, I come across THIS little gem. You’d think that people would put more thought into these things before putting them on their bodies, but I suppose that is just not the case here.
WHAT’S AWFUL: For starters, the grammar is horrendous. The lines are wonky and uneven. The tattoo itself is crooked. It’s just an altogether poorly thought out tattoo.
Something to note if you are going to get a hanzi/kanji/hangul characters tattooed onto yourself:
First of all:
Hanzi is Chinese.
Kanji is Japanese.
Hangul is Korean.
While Hanzi and Kanji share some of the same characters, the two are not entirely synonymous.
Please be aware of the fake “asian character tattoo sheet” that has been going around. Such as this one. It’s bullshit and while those are actually Hanzi characters, they usually do not mean what the website says they mean.
Hanzi does not work like alphabets. There is no “A”, “B”, “C” character. There are individual words.
If you are getting a tattoo in a language you are unfamiliar (or even if you take basic classes, or have Googled) with, please, please find someone who is reliable and fluent in said language to make sure that your tattoo design says what you want it to say. Here is a blog that is dedicated to gibberish Hanzi tattoos.
Please do not run your phrase through Google translate. Half the time, the translator fucks up. So please don’t.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I don’t know if you guys have seen this already, but I found this gem on YouTube. If you want a really good mashup of some really bad tattoos with real people’s feelings towards them, then watch this! They do some really good cover ups.
WHAT’S AWFUL: The majority of these people were drunk when they got these and didn’t think about the long term consequences of getting a permanent modification like this. They’re wonky, uneven, badly drawn, faded and just plain awful!
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Well as you can see what they did was cover them up to make them look better. But of course the real cure is not to make those bad decisions in the first place.
thought you'd enjoy this story, so i saw this girl today at school who was wearing a safety pin in her ear and asked her why and she said "it looks cool." I told her how bad it was for her to have in her ear and her response was "you're just mad you're not as badass as me."
>.> Uhm. Okay then, mrs. badass-of-badassery. Come talk to me about how badass you are when it starts rusting in your ear…
when drunk i had a friend of mine stretch my earlobe. bad idea. went up a size too much and my earlobe started secreting pus and junk so i took the barbell out... now it's just about grown shut :( sigh. but i am still glad i was wise enough to take it out asap!
Actually, if it was oozing “pus and junk” you should’ve left the barbell in until you went to a doctor and gotten anti-biotics. Taking out the barbell could’ve trapped the infection and made your scenario much much worse.
My neighbor’s mom is kinda old, I estimate around 60’s or in that area. She has hep C from a tattooing party that her and some friends had IN A HOUSE when they were younger. She doesn’t drink, but is in stage 4 liver failure because she thought a few wonky tattoos from a (presumably) high or drunk “friend” using the same needle over and over was worth the risk.
The first picture of her back is what caught my attention. This is something that always drives me nuts about tattoo artists that have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I am very familiar with the Japanese language and am an eternal lover of body mods, and so I just couldn’t stay quiet on this issue.
What’s Awful: In addition to the issues she already posted, the biggest one is actually that it doesn’t say anything. It does not mean ‘love’ (ai) it’s just a bunch of marks that kind of look like Japanese / Chinese kanji. The character for Ai is the same in both languages and they are pronounced only slightly differently.
As you can see there is a whole lot of differences in either case. I can not count how many people I have seen with something they think says peace/love/tranquility/ect and in actually is gibberish, a completely different word or just random marks.
How it can be fixed: I would highly suggest going to a reputable tattoo parlor and getting this fixed. PLEASE, if you or someone you know are thinking about going to get another language that you are not familiar with tattooed onto your body, be sure to do as much research as possible and if you can, consult someone who is familiar with the language just to be safe!
