About/General FAQ

Awful Modifications is a blog dedicated to the exposure and education of bad modifications. We mainly rely on submissions and reblogs from our wonderful followers to us. What do we post? Anything and everything to do with a bad modification. People calling things ‘gauges’, tapers as jewellery, ripped ears, blowouts, infection and hideous tattoos all make a regular appearance here. There’s plenty more things we get sent, too.

We also answer all your modification related questions. Whilst we rarely publish them, we still answer them. Have a question? Ask! (As long as it’s not something about ‘what’s the best way to pierce myself?’ ‘How can I make my own gauges’. Then we’ll probably just laugh at the question and move on). All our advice is taken from the APP (Association of Professional Piercers) and personal experience.

Who runs this blog? Me (Emily), Scott, Kirsty, Missdy, Petra, Kat and Jess. Missdy and Jess run their own studios (Switzerland and England respectively.) I have a completed apprenticeship, Kirsty is a seasoned piercee, and Scott is looking to complete one as soon as he is old enough. Petra is a professional body jewellery designer and Kat is in the same boat as Kirsty Contrary to rumour, we all have professional training in one aspect or another. Scott and Kirsty are trained first aiders, and also have experience in blood borne pathogen training, the other 3 moderator’s details are above. We are professionals. Andwe do know what we’re talking about. We’re also pretty heavily modified, before any of those rumors surface again!

Also, just because someone isn’t a piercer, doesn’t mean they don’t have equivalent or better knowledge than some piercers in the world.

Before we start anything else: You’ve reblogged/posted/I was on a submission and I want it removed!

Firstly, if we reblogged something that you posted, you cannot claim the ‘you reblogged it without my permission’ card, why? Because you didn’t care when everyone else reblogged it. If you post something on tumblr, everyone has the right to reblog as they wish. You cannot complain on behalf of your friend, the original poster/subject of the submission needs to come to us.

  • Contact Emily (www.hayflick.tumblr.com)
  • Include your name, the URL of the post on Awful Modifications and the reasons as to why you want it removed.
  • Please allow up to 24 hours for the submission to be removed.

THE MAGICAL FAQ OF WONDER.

FAQ:
How do I submit anonymously?

Log out of Tumblr, and use an alias email address and name, for example: Anon, anon@anon.com. This will totally protect your identity. You can also submit if you don’t have Tumblr this way.
Why haven’t you answered my question, it was an emergency?
We never set this out to be an advice blog, although we will answer questions. Questions are not our top priority, however, so it may take up to 2 weeks for them to be answered. If you have a modification emergency, go to a piercer, if you have an infection, go to your ER.

How long does it take you to post submissions?

Awful Mods is a queue-based blog. If a submission is approved, it’s put on the queue, which posts three/four times a day depending on submission volume. It can take up to a month before it reaches the actual blog.

My submission has never been posted!

We get a lot of submissions. A LOT. Not all of them fit in with our guidelines, which are here. Sometimes we’ve already posted what you’ve submitted, or the explanation doesn’t fit in with the guidelines, you’ve used explicit language which some may find upsetting, used racist/homophobic/sexist slurs, or simply, what you’ve submitted just isn’t awful enough!
