Q:I asked a question on the SafePiercing blog that was never answered. I wanted to get your take on glass jewelry. Marley made a statement against it. Now that you have an actual piercer moderating I was wondering anyone else on this blog shares the disdain for glass as initial jewelry. Not for most piercings but things like large gauge mod work e.g. after scalpel procedures, conch and flat punches, etc.
I adore glass. It’s my favourite, most loved, and cherished material. However, in a fresh piercing, it’s a no-no. Why? It cannot be safely autoclaved. It’s not as smooth, and despite being glass, titanium is still less porous and a lot safer for initial jewellery.
I think that for initial larger gauge piercing, titanium is always best, and then glass is best for switching to after the modification’s healed.
I wear glass is my 4mm conch, always have done :3
