Q:what exactly IS a blowout? i've seen all the pictures you guys post but what actually happens to the lobe during a blowout?
Right, I’ll do my best at explaining this.
Your lobe, it has it’s outside bit, and the inside bit. The inside part, is the inside of the piercing, where the jewellery travels through. It’s known as a fistula. So, when you put pressure on it, it’ll move and try to accommodate the pressure (in this case, the next stretch up.)
If you force a taper/tunnel/plug through too fast, the fistula cannot handle the additional pressure, and is therefore pushed out the back of the piercing, creating an extra ‘flap’ of skin outside the actual piercing.
Basically, stretch too fast, your lobes will turn inside out.
