tapers
okay so hey im new to all this, i dont have ‘gauged’ ears or anything, but why is it so bad to wear tapers? aren’t they manufactured as jewelry? of course i dont know that they are, just seems like i have seen lots that look manufactured, but hey, for a ‘gauged’ ear, what is best to be put in it?

To start off, the correct term is stretching. And second, tapers distribute the weight unevenly, causing excess scar tissue build and thins the lobe in places it really doesn’t want to be. They are manufactured to be a ‘tool’, like when you use a drill bit to make a hole for a screw, and then leave the drill bit in there. Their job, as a taper, is to extended the size of the hole in a painfree manner, and then you replace the taper with the correct jewellery (ie, not organic or acrylic). So, leaving a taper in a hole is like leaving a drill bit in a hole. It’ll keep the hole open, but won’t do the job as a plug should.
