This is a story about a girl and a navel piercing…
I got my navel done because I decided there was nothing holding me back from it. I picked one of the most “professional” shops in the area. I went in, as I had done with my cartalidge, and waited for a long time. They quite frankly have a hard time keeping appointments on time. So I got it done it felt like a quick flu shot. I instantly loved it and went on my merry way. Within a week it was infected. I kept telling myself it was because I had moved back into a dorm and it must have got dirt or something in it during the move, although I felt it may be slightly off center ect. With some magic Dr. Bronners soap the infection cleared and I was relieved, and some friends reassured me it was not crooked and to trust the piercer had done it. Months went by and I got a little red bump beside the top of it. I did a sea salt soak thinking irritation, I did just come back from the gym. So quite frankly it looked funny, so I poked it. Mistake, it was an infection that exploded and bled and oozed. It didn’t hurt or smell, but sure as hell it was gross. I would not wish that surprise on anyone. Dismayed I washed it an applied tea tree oil, because the piercer had told me to if I had an infection. Eventually that healed, but the red mark persisted. And within a month it exploded again. This time I had a number of friends, some are working in the healthcare field, and some are simply knowledgeable. (I had a list of reasons not to go to the doctor, it wasn’t stupidity I didn’t go) Hesitantly we washed it and had to rinse it with alcohol. This is time it healed, for good. But everyone agreed the piercing simply “looked off”. Now it is “healed” and the problem is staring us in the face. The piercing is too shallow and has been giving me problems from day one. I had suspected it, but so many people told me to trust a “professional” piercer to the point that I ignored it. Let this be a lesson to never ignore your gut feeling. And that professionals make mistakes too.
So now unfortunately the “professional” I got it done by won’t see anyone for after care I have to remove it myself, and wait for it to heal with hopes of not much scar tissue.
And P.S. I am not the only person who has had issues with this place, how it keeps the title professional is beyond me!
Again the lesson is: ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT! If you think there is something wrong, there probably is.
(I know we’re not supposed to post hate, so if anyone in or near Boston MA is trying to decide where to go and DOES NOT want the same experience please feel free to inbox me, I will disclose the place to you. I wouldn’t wish this one anyone!)
