Q:I have a question that may sound incredibly stupid: How do CBRs work?

CBRs or captive bead rings (also know as ball closer rings, BCRs) have a little dimpled ball.

The ring sits inside these dimples. The rings are usually on quite tight, so ring opening pliers are often used to remove the ball from the ring the first time, they sort of pop off.

Once a happy medium has been found (the ring’s not too tight and not too loose), the ball will pop in and out with no problem. The ring, given its material, will be slightly flexible, meaning when you ‘click’ the ball in, it’ll stay in.
