Q:Why is it that belly button piercings have a high infection rate? A lot of people I've spoken to have had prolonged healing times due to infection, different qualified piercers, no guns, followed instructions correctly, but still infection?

Anonymous

Let’s clear this up here.

Only 1 in 1000 piercings get infected roughly. Navel piercings are prone to irritation purely because they’re in a high movement area.

Navels take 18 months to fully heal, due to the lack of blood flow and high movement.

Signs of infected piercings are: A green/brown/red substance oozing around it, a foul odour, incredibly hot to touch and extreme swelling.

The only way to treat infection is with a broad spectrum antibiotic, whereas irritation either clears up on its own, or with the help of soaks and chamomile :)
