Q:Hey :) So I've got two cartilage piercings, my tragus and my daith, both done by very experienced, trusted (and humble) piercers. They're both healed just fine now, but during the healing process of both of them (I got them done about 6 months apart) they both developed this weird bump on them. It would start out kind of fleshy, but within a week would simply dry up and fall off like a scab, and the piercing would be just beautiful. No pain, minimal clear oozing...I mean, I just sort of figured it was just something my body did to heal. Now I'm just curious on what it possibly could have been, so if you've got any insight, that would be great :)

Those are called hypertrophic scars. I get them on virtually all of my piercings and always have!

They’re easily treatable with salt water and chamomile tea bags, they just dry up and fall off like yours did :)

A lot of people get them in all honesty, it’s caused by irritation, or sometimes they just appear :)
