SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed when I happened upon this travesty. On of my ex-friends posted pictures of this and the matching one that she got with her sister (whose text is in English).
WHAT’S AWFUL: The lines are shaky, the shading is awful, the text is horrid, and if I’m not mistaken, the conjugation of “volent” is incorrect. And the worst part? It was done “professionally” by a shop that only recently opened right by my house. I was considering trying it out for my next piece, but this picture cast that out the window.

SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: This is a guy I used to work with. Wonderful man. Loves his family… Maybe a little too much. Or maybe not enough. Considering these tattoos are ugly as sin, and they weren’t even done professionally. I vaguely remember asking him where he got them done and him saying something like, “my buddy does them in his basement”. My only reaction was, “Oh, honey, nooo.”

WHAT’S AWFUL: Non-professional tattooist (with the usual problems that come with that - thankfully he does not appear to have gotten any infections of any kind), tattoo contains wonky colouring and shading, the children look squished and weird and creepy instead of glowingly adorable like they are IRL (I was lucky enough to meet his youngest grandkid who was absolutely sweet).

HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: I don’t know if tattoos this severe-looking can be lasered/covered, but that’s all I can think of.

I would like to clarify in that I do not think less of this person for making the decisions he did, and I appreciate the sentiments behind the tattoos. But he could be putting himself at a health risk if he continues to have his tats done by a ‘friend in his basement’, and his tattoos just don’t reflect just how precious and adorable his grandkids are.

SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: this is one of my friends newest tattoos. its a portrait of him and his friend that recently passed. i feel awful about how bad this tattoo is since it is for his friend that passed and this tattoo just ruins the really special bond the two of them had
WHAT’S AWFUL: i honestly just don’t know where to start. the lines are wonky and humans just look nothing like that. the shading is awful and i dont know how the artist thought that human skin looks like that
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: the only thing i can think of would be to cover it up but i doubt you could even do that. laser removal would be the only thing you could do

Submitter comment: This is a girl I follow on Instagram. She got this done in her house, from someone who is not a professional. As you can see from the comments, she is acting like she has one of the best tattoos ever. Someone politely asked what it was done with, and she was rude about it.

What’s awful: It’s done at home, the guy had a handmade gun, the outline is bad, it’s done in the middle of a living room.

The Independent - Tattoos: Marked For Life?

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/tattoos-marked-for-life-2235121.html

SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: thought this was worthy of sharing, it’s not an awful modification per se. but awful public attitudes to them.

This came up on my Facebook news feed, it’s a nice thing that there’s a charity helping people remove hideous tattoos that they regret if they can’t afford it themselves, but some of the opinions stated are depressingly anti-mod :/

it’s just awful to be writing on a well read news site that -

  1. tattoos are essentially a form of self harm
  2. 3/4 of people who have them regret them
  3. it’s acceptable for workplaces to discriminate based on having tattoos
  4. if you want a job you should know better than to get tattooed in the first place

and the comments. dear god.

Submitters Comment: I was scrolling down my facebook news feed and suddenly this appeared. I was shocked. The poor girl is so proud of it.

What’s Awful: The bar is far too long, leaving it prone to getting caught on clothing/hair. Also, as far as I know, the bar itself is wrong and should not be used on a nape piercing. It will almost definitely reject.

How it can be fixed: Take it out and let it heal completely before going to a piercer who actually knows what they’re doing.

Submitter comment: This came up on my newsfeed. It’s the arm of my classmates boyfriend.
What’s awful: The guy is only 16 and the lines are extremely inconsistent in thickness and they’re really unsteady.

This is more for the first time body modders

(SOURCE)

SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: When people ask me ‘why did you pay so much??’  or ‘my jewelry was way cheaper, you got ripped off’ I show them this. Quality over quantity. Jewelry that’s made out of implant grade materials, that you know what metals they are made from, and that are made just for you beat any $10 cbr or curved barbell bought from the mall. If you pride yourself on your piercings and care about them, buy the jewelry that show you do. It’s pricey, yes. BUT like I said it’s quality over quantity. If you have any questions on what brands or where you can buy excellent quality jewelry hit up my askbox! I know the body mod community might be kinda intimidating at times, but asking questions is how we learn and better ourselves!

Ariel the not so pretty mermaid.

(SOURCE)

SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I saw this in my Tumblr feed earlier this afternoon, it’s on a friend of mine. It mit just be me but it looks kind of faded and splotchy, also her hand is a bit disfigured. Again it mit just be me or the way the picture was taken.

WHAT’S AWFUL: It seems poorly done, at least by what i can tell in the picture.  Her tail is splotchy and her hand is a bit disfigured, and it is faded. She is also missing lines on her upper tail around the waist. Her arms are distorted and her face is oddly shaped on her right cheek.  Also if you look closely near the end of her tail the lines get wonky. This is just a bad tattoo all around.

HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Go to a professional/more experienced artist, and get a cover up. I don’t think there is any way that it could be fixed as is. A cover up is the best option in this case.

MODERATOR COMMENT:
Honestly, I think this could be fairly easily fixed by a good artist who can rework what’s there. I don’t think a full-on cover-up is necessary.
