So this is my ear after buying “silicone” tunnels. They were obviously a cheap plastic, as I have had silicone before with no problems and actually love them. They fit perfectly, so they didn’t stretch and my dr did confirm this was an allergic reaction as it spread to my neck and glands. My ears have not been stretched since last spring.
What’s awful: my ear is swollen, red, itchy, and oozing! And I take great are of my ears. It was so tight, I couldn’t even fit my finger through my 35mm hole. I have a rash on my neck and swollen glands.
How it can be fixed: I am currently on antihistamines, steroid cream, and an antibiotic cream. So doing my treatments and icing them will keep the swelling down. Make sure you know where your plugs are coming from and what is inside them. These are obviously not quality jewelry here.
Submitter’s Comment: This was posted on the Facebook page of the local shop near my college. I’m fairly certain that’s blood. I’m also fairly certain that stretching your lobes shouldn’t end with blood. This place does good work, although I will admit that the Industrial I got from them doesn’t seem to be healing right. But I stretch my own ears and I’ve never had them bleed before. it just doesn’t seem right to me.
What’s Awful: He look’s like he’s bleeding and that lobe doesn’t look happy to me.
How it can be fixed: Help! Mod’s you guys know a lot more about this than me!
that placement is also off. way off. if it were my ear i’d take it out and get it redone elsewhere after it’s healed up.
Except piercings do not just stretch down, they stretch in all directions (or sometimes the direction of least resistance). This would probably also stretch upwards and be pressing on the anti-tragus, which would likely be uncomfortable.
Everything on this girls blog is either self tattooing or self piercing.
All of the needle play looks like it’s done on bed sheets, most of the piercings look like they’re in a bathroom.
What’s awful: Environment doesn’t look sterile, using what looks like a make up wipe to clean it, and the bones don’t line up.
Source: My friend’s mom.
What’s awful: They got it done in some dude’s trailer for “cheap”. Apparently there were 4-5 cats in the house, and shortly after, it got infected (no surprise). The stars are all weird, and its just in an awkward looking spot.
How it can be fixed: Maybe a cover up? Not really sure. At least go to a professional in a clean shop.

Submitter’s Comment: Part 2 to my ‘kkhtattoo’ picture montage. Found these on Instagram from a “piercing/tattoo shop” located in Hong Kong. All of their pictures are horrible, and mass produced/copied on different people.
What’s Awful?: I am a full believer in the fact that you MUST have a good grasp on a language people for tattoo it onto people’s body. If you don’t, okay, no problem… ASK SOMEONE WHO DOES! These people are so poorly educated in the field that it makes me so sad for these poor people getting work done by them. I mean.. “Enjoy evey Day”? Really? I don’t know what the first picture is doing, but it looks like a tampon hanging on some chains. On their page you can see the puzzle piece with birds flying out of it on multiple people, all done atrociously.
How Can These Be Fixed?: I’m not sure if they can… Perhaps go to a VERY GOOD cover-up artist. Do your research.
NEVER get tattooed in China!
I mean…I wouldn’t say NEVER get tattooed in China. I’ve seen some good work come out of China, but yeah…be careful when you get tattooed in china. Or anywhere, really. Research your artists.
FAR from ‘safe’…

Submitter’s Comments: This is a screen cap of a site I came across. It was actually found from THIS article, posted on AwfulMods one year ago. If you click on the source, you will find a horrific article on how to ‘safely’ pierce yourself at home.
What’s Awful?: This site is blatantly condoning self piercing. Although it’s possible to find all the info you need online, that doesn’t take away from the fact that most people don’t own autoclaves. What you purchase on the internet will not be sterile (unless it’s a high-quality site that offers such). And even so, it’s just not a good idea. People go through years of apprenticeships to master the art for a reason. They have high prices FOR A REASON.
How To Fix?: Try and educate more people on the dangers of self piercing and go to a reputable shop!
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: Was on my news feed and saw this post from some high school kids I know..
WHAT’S AWFUL: First off, a 16 year old with his own tattoo gun offering tattoos. And second, the kid tattooing himself WHILE on the computer.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: DON’T TATTOO YOURSELF. It’s unsanitary and just plain awful looking. Wait and go to a professional and get it done right.
Noticed a huge lump of scar tissue under an old gun punched piercing I haven’t worn jewelry in in years.
What’s awful: It takes a considerable amount of trauma to make scar tissue that thick from such a small hole, which is why you should never have even your lobes pierced with a gun
A random girl added me on facebook a while back and i came across her ‘art’ folder one day and found some horrific copies of very well known tattooists work and some other little things that i typed into google images and immediately an original of what shes posted as her ‘own’ shows up. I confronted her and apparently i was ‘attacking’ her and then continued to make status’ about me as she couldn’t handle that she’d been found out, but then deleted all the photos i’d commented on. She has a tattoo machine at home, which she ordered off the internet, she openly offers cheap tattoos on her facebook. I don’t think there are words for these tattoos. I can’t really point out what is wrong, as the whole thing is wrong.
how can it be fixed?
She needs to put the tattoo machine down, pick up a pencil, learn to draw original designs and not tattoo from home. For the tattooed people, they need a cover up ASAP.
SUBMITTER’S COMMENT: I found this shop through Groupon. They’re offering $50 for $100 worth of tattooing, $350 for six hours of tattooing in one sitting, and(according to their facebook) they offer ridiculous piercing specials regularly. They had some really nice tattoos mixed in with their awful ones which made me curious, so I image searched the good ones. Probably half of the tattoos in their shop portfolio are stolen from different artists(most from Scott Campbell of Saved Tattoo in NY). So not only are they bad at what they do, they are liars and thieves.
I would link photos of the piercings, but they are only on their website which I can’t link from.
WHAT’S AWFUL: Shaky lines, bad shading, STOLEN pictures, awful everything. Surface piercings have wrong jewelry in as well.
HOW IT CAN BE FIXED: Just don’t go to SDInk.
