Q: I’ve been told two different things about stretching and i can’t decide which is best. It’s about stretching with tapers or tunnels. I don’t know which is best for what size…I’ve stretched with tapers previously, just because i’m at a small size. I’m currently in the middle of stretching to…
If you’re going to called jewellery for stretched ears, ‘gauges’, then using that logic (It’s measured in a gauge, therefore it’s named a gauge), you must also call shoes ‘sizes’, drinks must be called ‘litres’, clothes must also be called ‘sizes’. Fruit sold by the pound, becomes known as ‘pound/s’. You can no longer buy sugar, you have to call it ‘kilograms’
Also, the gauge system only goes to 00g, so after that, and up until 1”, they must be called ‘fraction-of-inches. After that, they become known as ‘SICK INCHES’. Small jewellery is also measured by the gauge system (as well as in mm) so, anyone with a piercing has SICK GAUGES.
Surely this explains as to why we don’t refer to plugs, tunnels, eyelets, earskins, the stretched lobe themselves, as gauges.
You don’t have speedometers in your ears.

Blood + stretching = trouble! This is a remove-all-the-jewellery jobby and stretch up slowly from 1.2mm, 1.6,mm, 2mm etc every six weeks, skipping no sizes.

What’s awful: Jumping 3 sizes in one go, and planning on stretching to another. Ear damage, blowouts and scar tissue ahoy!
How to fix it: Take your plugs out and leave them out. In three months, go to 14g. A month after that, 12g, a month after that, 10g, a month after that, 8g, a month after that, 6g. And so on and so forth (however 0g+ should wait 2-3 months). Tapers are NOT jewellery. You don’t drill a hole for a screw, and leave the drill bit in because ‘it’ll do’. No, it won’t. The same goes for tapers. Save your ears, you’ve only got two of them!

You’re forgetting the almighty, magical and mystical 1g or 7mm. These can easily be bought from your local reputable piercing shop, or online at www.bodyartforms.com. A 2mm jump is too big for all ears, which is why your ears won’t stretch, despite waiting a good amount of time. Buy something single flared, in titanium, surgical steel or glass, and you should be good to go!

ok so my ear has been fat and red and shiny all day, took the 14mm taper out and blood goes everywhere and it smells like old tea and omg its so gross, so i put my 12mm back in but i wanna be wearing my 14mm in two weeks

Woah woah woah. Let’s slow down here! Firstly. Take whatever you have in your lobe OUT. NOW. It will not want jewellery in it for a helluva long time, especially given that you caused your lobe to bleed!
Leave your ear alone. Well alone. For a month. Then, slowly massage your lobe with oil (ie, jojoba, emu, bio oil, vitamin e etc) for three months. Then, safely insert safe jewellery. You might well have shrunk to 6 or 8mm by then.
Stretch slowly, stretch safely. A bleeding lobe is NOT a happy lobe.
